Volocopter is an aviation and engineering company that has ambitious aims of revolutionizing personal transportation by introducing the world’s first manned fully electric multicopters. Volocopter’s VX2 model aircraft is fully licensed for manned flight and is designed to be safe, fully electric, and quiet. The aim of the company is for these aircraft to pave the way for a future in which air taxi services within cities can be used to significantly reduce traffic and pollution, improve air quality, reduce carbon emissions and energy consumption, and provide people with a faster and more convenient way to get around. The copters can be controlled remotely, can fly autonomously, or can be operated using simple joystick controls. Volocopter, based in Stuttgart, Germany began development of their manned multicopters in 2011 and demonstrated a proof of concept months later. In 2016, the Volocopter VX2 was granted a permit to fly and became the world’s first electric manned multicopter to be licensed. In 2017, the Volocopter was first tested as an air taxi solution in the harshest possible climate conditions, in Dubai City. As of June 2019, Volocopter is continuing the development and testing of the electronic multicopters, with a view to introducing them as a viable urban personal transport solution.
